2D to 3D Game Room design for Google Campus with PAC MAN
Challenge

Translating two-dimensional, well known, digital assets into 3D, physical iterations is a challenge we face with some regularity at Figure Plant. Length and width are given and scalable, but what about the depth? How tall are those maze walls that PAC-MAN navigates, chasing ghosts. What about the cookies? Circular, yes, but domed, flat? How tall should they be? Materiality and finishes also have an important voice at the table of a translation from 2D into 3D. Add to the mix a tight timeline in a high-security environment and a seemingly simple project begins to offer up some formidable complexity.

Solution

Careful consideration of every detail - fit, finish, and fidelity down to precise specifications. Painted MDF with high gloss finishes, laser-cut acrylic, and 2nd surface graphics on clear acrylic delivered the right aesthetic.

Results

Working closely with our friends at SERA architecture, Wide Eyed Studio and XL Construction, we created highly unique environments on-time and on-budget. Dark, chill creative break spaces that feel like you have moved to the other side of the screen, welcomed into the world of space invasion and power cookies.
